The characteristics of Japanese scholarly journals; as media for disseminating the research results

Abstract

Sschoraly journals are concidered as media for disseminating research results. To clarify the characteristics of Japanese scholarly journals, the analysis of journals in physics, Japanese literature and political science (300 journals in total) are examined from the point such as original papers contained, the numbers of original papers published in a year, the types of editorial organization, refree systems and types of articles included in the journal. Main findings are as follows: (1) In physics, 3 famaous learened journals in english formed the core. A large number of journals consist of only original papers. (2) In the field of Japanese literature, college bulletins and commercial journals devoted to Japanese literature formed the core. (3) In political science, there are almost not journals devoted to political science. The most of journals consist of variety articles.
