Abstract

This article is based on the work of Technology Task Group 1 (TTG-1) for the IEEE-USA/Cornell workshop on 'The Evolution of the US Telecommunications Infrastructure Over the Next Decade'. The task group identified the likely development of optical fibre technologies over the next decade and likely architectures of the future telecommunications infrastructure that would include these technologies. In particular, the activity of the task group focused on local access.
