Transmission of 40 Gb/s DPSK and OOK at 1.55 μm through 100 m of plastic optical fiber

Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s transmission of both RZ-OOK and RZ-DPSK signals across a double clad, 130 μm core, graded index plastic optical fiber (GI-POF) at 1.55 μm. Error free transmission is achieved with little penalty for RZ-OOK and <3 dB penalty for RZ-DPSK.
