Abstract

2-trifluoromethyl styrene (TFMSt) and 1,4-bis(phenylthio) benzene were synthesized. As the core and cladding base materials of graded-index polymer optical fiber, TFMSt polymers with several dopants and copolymers of TFMSt and methyl methacrylate were investigated, respectively. As the result of RI and Tg measurements, the fiber is expected to have the high Tg over 140 °C as well as the low-loss property that is specific to styrene-based fibers.
