Trypanocidal constituents of Desmos dasymachalus

Abstract

Trypanocidal constituents of the root of Desmosdasymachalus B. P. Safford (Annonaceae) were examined. From the basic fraction of the methanol extract, a new aporphine alkaloid, dasymachaline-α-N-oxide, was isolated together with three known compounds, 6,8-dimethyl-5-hydroxy-7-methoxyflavone, dicentrinone, and dasymachaline, as trypanocidal constituents. Dasymachaline-α-N-oxide showed the strongest activity with its minimum lethal concentration (MLC) of 4.2 μM.
