Use of adult marrow mesenchymal stem cells for regeneration of cardiomyocytes

Abstract

Bone marrow cells have been suggested to have multi-lineage plasticity including formation of cardiac tissue. We have established a cardiomyogenic (CMG) cell line from mouse bone marrow stromal cells that can be induced to differentiate into cardiomyocytes in vitro by 5-azacytidine treatment. A number of lines of evidence confirm the cardiomyocyte characteristics of CMG cells.
