The graded index polymer optical fiber (GI-POF) opens the way towards the realization of optical communication systems which combine attractive features. An experiment was carried out using non return to zero (NRZ) pseudo random binary sequence (PRBS) with a pattern length of 223-1. One important feature in the avalanche photodiode (APD) receiver was the combination of the APD with two limiting amplifiers in a low impedance front end configuration. A 2 dB receiver sensitivity degradation was observed, due to modal dispersion of the fiber. The width of the optical spectrum of the modulated laser at an average output power of 6.8 dBm was 0.4 nm, 3 dB below the maximum value, which limits pulse broadening due to dispersion of the fiber.
