A Combination Resonance of an Excited Rotor with a Nonuniform Magnetization Distribution Supported by a Superconductive Magnetic Bearing

This paper reports a unique resonance phenomenon that can occur when a superconductive magnetic bearing with nonuniform magnetization distribution is forced to vibrate in a single direction. The dynamics are studied by deriving the equations of motion, and a unique resonance is predicted both theoretically and numerically. A simple experiment is also conducted. The results show that a combination resonance can occur when the difference between the rotation frequency and the vibration frequency is equal to the natural frequency of the rotor.
