A paired microflap array for single cell interaction analysis

We propose a microflap array system for producing cell membrane contact at single cell level. Microflaps, composed of Parylene and Permalloy, function as the magnet-active flapping actuators. Single cells are cultured onto each microflap. Cell-cultured microflap can be lifted up to make cell-to-cell contact by applying a magnetic field or with the assistance of glass capillary manipulation. By using this device, two single adherent cells can be paired without detaching cells from substrates. This proposed pairing system is expected to facilitate the analysis of cell-cell communication between two or more single adherent cells.
