A scanning coherent phonon microscope

    A microscope of coherent phonon was developed based on the pump-probe reflectance measurement. The optical source was a mode-locked Ti:Sapphire laser operating at a center wavelength of 800 nm. A spot size of 50μm was achieved with an objective lens. The change in reflectivity of a tellurium film was demonstrated. The sample was scanned with a computerized stage and scanned images were obtained for the coherent phonon modes. A clear phonon mode at 3.6 THz was also obtained.
