A triage training system considering cooperation and proficiency of multiple trainees

In large-scale disasters, an activity which determines the priority of treatment based on the severity of the injured person, called triage, is important. In recent years, collaboration between medical institutions and people working in disaster sites is much emphasized. However, the triage training that takes each trainee’s proficient and cooperative level into consideration has not been implemented. Based on this background, we propose a triage training system in which the expression of information changes according to the skill level of each trainee. We use beacons instead of real victims in this training. A couple of trainees actually move around to search for beacons, and cooperate to respond to each event. While scenario in the training is not changed, we will change an method of presenting the biometric information of victims according to the skill level of trainees. This enables trainees with different levels of proficiency to collaborate and perform triage exercises. We conducted experimental evaluation of this system. The results revealed the system was effective to implement triage quickly and accurately. In addition, we found the proposal was good for awareness of sharing important information in cooperative activities.
