The rain sample is injected into anion separation column which is able to separate major anion (Cl-, NO3-, and SO42-) and organic acids (HCOO- and CH3COO-). Then, the separated anion is determined by electrical conductivity detector and a portion of organic acids is automatically reinjected into ion chromatography exclusion (ICE) column and determined. Therefore, anion and organic acids in the rain sample can be continuously determined within 20 minutes by this system. Cation (Na+, K+, and NH4+) in the rain sample also can be simultaneously determined by using another flow line for ion chromatography analysis. Rain water was sampled and analyzed by this system. These results showed a strong effect of the removal of aerosols by rain, and strong negative correlations between the concentrations of major ions and rainfall rate. -from Authors
