Chemical recycling of lactic acid based polymer blends

Chemical recycling of polymer blends consisting of poly(lactic acid)(PLA) and poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) was studied. That is, first PBS was selectively degraded into cyclic oligomers using lipase in toluene solution. The cyclic oligomers and PLA were separated by the reprecipitation using chloroform-methanol. PLA was degraded into oligoLA using a solid acid, MK5. The oligoLA was repolymerized using stannous chloride forming a high molecular weight PLA. Cyclic butylene succinate oligomer was also polymerized by lipase CA to produce PBS as a chemical recycling.
