A complete design approach for high-tech facilities which have strict vibration requirements is described. First step of the approach is to understand and determine the allowable level of vibration required for precision instruments. After defining the allowable level of vibration and examining the sources of vibration in the site, careful analyses including wave propagation, structural response, slab response and spectral analyses are performed with parallel design operations to estimate the level and to select the best location in the site. Then both architectural and structural plannings are studied as well as the vibration isolation planning of whether the vibration isolation slabs are introduced or stiff structural elements are employed.
