Effect of illuminance and color temperature on productivity

The purpose of this study is to clarify the effect of illuminance and color temperature on human productivity and lighting satisfaction. In this study, we performed a laboratory experiment. To evaluate lighting satisfaction, subjects responded to a questionnaire, and to evaluate objective performance, subjects performed four tasks involving information processing and creative activity. Seven combinations of 3 illuminances (375 lx, 750 lx, 1200 lx) and 3 color temperatures (3000 K, 4000 K, 5000 K) were investigated. Combinations of illuminance and color temperature that maximize objective performance differed by task. The regression equation (r = 0.55) states that when lighting satisfaction is increased, the relative performance of office work will also increase. The regression can calculate and relative performance of office work from lighting satisfaction vote of occupants.
