High-resolution coherent spectroscopy: Linewidth reduction by recurrent excitation

A previous study proposed and demonstrated spectral narrowing by recurrent use of free-decay signal in magnetic resonance in the ground state of Rb atoms. Based on this study, an attempt was made to apply this technique to the measurement of the hyperfine frequency in the excited state. The hyperfine spectra of the excited state 2P3/2 of the D2 transition in 85Rb atoms were observed and the hyperfine constants of the excited state were determined.
