N2 - The new highly scattering optical transmission (HSOT) backlighting system having high visual quality and twice efficiency and fewer components than the conventional system was proposed and achieved. Analysis of the multiple light scattering inside the HSOT polymer and optimization of the HSOT polymer for a liquid crystal display (LCD) backlight were carried out by using the HSOT modeling simulation. As a result, the HSOT backlighting system exhibited twice the brightness and efficiency of the conventional transparent PMMA plate backlighting system, and the uniformity of color temperature without dependence of the distance from the lamp.
