Influence of geometrical and material parameters on the forming limit of multilayer metallic steel sheets

In this paper, the influence of geometrical and material parameters on the forming limit of multilayer steel sheet has been investigated. The multilayer steel sheet dealt with in this research is a next-generation high-strength steel that has high strength with sufficiently high ductility. However, any methodology has not been proposed to properly design such a complex material efficiently. Therefore, geometrical and material parameters were utilized to analyze the characteristics in tensile deformation of multilayer steel sheets. The theoretical and numerical investigations revealed that the uniform elongation could be controlled by these parameters. The uniform elongation of multilayer steel sheets has a significant influence on the fracture limit; thus, the forming limit can also be controlled by these parameters. Although another macro and microscopic factors should be considered, this result indicates that optimal material design is possible with the presented concept.
