The main problem of non-directed diffuse indoor infrared (IR) channel is intersymbol interference (ISI) induced by multipath distortion. In this paper, we examine the influence of multipath distortion on the transmitted pulse in non-directed diffuse indoor IR channel. We consider five kinds of waveforms as transmitted pulses: pulses of sine curve, squared sine curve, offset-cosine curve, triangle shape, and saw shape. We assume a baseband OOK system with AWGN induced by background light. Non-directed diffuse indoor infrared channel has the low-pass frequency characteristic in nature. It is shown that ISI decreases with the decrease of high frequency components of a transmitted pulse waveform, and that a squared sine pulse yields the best BER performance.
