The fabrication of Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ nanocrystal phosphors from the precursor sol in supercritical ethanol at 265°C and 8.2MPa was discussed. Crystalline phases of the sample produced were investigated by x-ray diffractometry while the particle morphology and microstructures were observed by field emission transmission electron microscopy. It was concluded that the optimum excited wavelength as well as the properties of chemical bonds can be controlled by reducing the particle size and a supercritical solvent is useful for producing the uniform size and shape of Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ phosphor particles.
