Molecular arrangements of bowl-shaped molecules, corannulene and sumanene, in single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were investigated using high-resolution transmission microscopy and near-infrared photoluminescence spectroscopy. The results indicated that corannulenes are nested in SWCNTs with a random orientation, whereas sumanenes form stacked structures. The trends are consistent with the molecular orientations of corannulene and sumanene in single crystals.
