Decreased physical activity in students has recently caused serious health concerns such as the reduced ability to exercise and the increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity. To encourage physical activity in students, improvement of the regional environment has been promoted. This study examined the impact of neighborhood environment on the physical activity of students, using a questionnaire survey and actual measurements of physical activity. Data were obtained from students aged 10-11 years across 13 school districts. The number of walking steps exceeded in regions where the satisfaction with natural environments, safety such as crime prevention and traffic safety was higher.
