T1 - Narrow Linewidth Flashlamp Pumped Ti:Al2O3Laser

The laser rod used in this work is a 6.35 mm-dia.x7.66 cm-long (active length of 6.8 cm) Ti:A1203 (Union Carbide) with [Ti]=O.lwt%. We measured a relatively high residual absorption at -790 nm with a-polarization, which coresponds to a FOM-90. The ends of the rod was perpendicularly cut to the laser axis with no antireflection coating. The laser rod is supported by stainless-steel rod holders and surrounded by the Pyrex tube. We used a simple close-coupled pump cavity with six Xe-flashlamps, which have a bore diameter of 5 mm and a 10.2 cm arc-length (ILC, model 5D4). The PTFE (teflon) diffuse reflectors are closely placed by the flashlamps to direct the emitted light towards the rod. Around the flashlamps an ethanol solution

When a grazing-incidence grating resonator with relatively small incident angle of 82° was applied to the flashlamp pumped Ti:Al2O3 laser head, we obtained the maximum laser energy of 120 mJ and the linewidth of ∼;10pm. For more efficient operation, we attempted to use an Integrated Master Oscillator Power Amplifier resonator. Design considerations of this resonator is described.
