This paper discusses a routing scheme for an autonomous distributed wireless network (mobile ad-hoc networking) using an ultra-wideband (UWB) system. The UWB system is a kind of spread-spectrum communication system which has the function of measuring the distance between the transmitter and the receiver with high accuracy. Using this distance measurement function, the received energy per bit is kept constant by adjusting the spreading factor according to the transmission distance. This paper considers a packet-forwarding scheme based on the above feature of the UWB system, where the spreading factor is adjusted according to the distance between the transmitter and the receiver. The objective is to realize higher throughput than in single-hop transmission by using multihop transmission which controls the maximum transmission distance.
