We performed cataract surgery on 20 eyes and implanted accommodative intraocular lens (IOL). Another series of 14 eyes implanted with silicone IOL served as control. They were followed up for maximally one year after surgery. Corrected visual acuity of 20/20 was obtained in all the 34 eyes. Power of accommodation, measured by an automated accommodomater, was nil in control eyes and 0.35 ± 0.30 diopters in 13 out of 20 eyes (65%) implanted with accommodative IOL. It started to decrease after 6 months of surgery, presumably due to contraction of anterior lens capsule and opacification of posterior capsule.
