Performance estimation of two base-isolated buildings with different rubber bearings

Earthquake observation has been carried on at two types of base isolated buildings, which are supported by lead multi-rubber bearings (LRB) and multi-rubber bearings with high damping (HRB) respectively. This paper presents the vibration characteristics of these buildings and a method based on component mode synthesis is used to estimate the restoring force of the isolation layer of the building subjected to earthquake. The base-isolated building is divided into a superstructure and a base-isolation layer. The superstructure is assumed to be a linear system, and the base-isolation layer has both linear and nonlinear components. Thus the whole building can be separated into two parts that have a common fixed-interface. The linear modal information of the superstructure and the nonlinear physical model of the isolation layer were studied in this paper.
