Composite films of nanocrystalline ZnS:Mn and two types of polymers, poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), were synthesized. Luminescence of Mn2+ was enhanced on the ZnS:Mn-PAA composite due to energy transfer from PAA to Mn2+. From the angle-resolved XPS measurements of the ZnS:Mn-PMMA composite film and photoluminescence (PL) of a bilayer composite film consisting of PAA and ZnS:Mn-PMMA films, it is concluded that exchange interaction plays a significant role in the energy transfer between PAA and Mn2+.
