N2 - An inorganic-organic composite thin film comprising finely dispersed polystyrene and a silica matrix was prepared from a complex microemulsion by dip coating. The method enables control of the size of the dispersed phase and the extent of interaction between dispersoid and matrix by varying the composition of the microemulsion. The chemical interaction between silica sol, styrene and acrylamide was examined by infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron micrography.
