For studies into and the clinical application of cardiomyocytes, simple methodology capable of precisely separating viable cardiomyocytes from noncardiomyocytes is required. Herein, a simple and nongenetic method is described for the separation of viable cardiomyocytes. Examples of the application of this method include (1) investigations into developmental changes in gene expression profiles in cardiomyocytes and noncardiomyocytes; (2) studies investigating drug responses of human pluripotent stem cell (PSC)-derived cardiomyocytes; (3) in vitro investigations into the interactions between cardiomyocytes and noncardiomyocytes; and (4) the use of PSC-derived cardiomyocytes in heart regenerative therapy.
