A controller design methodology was proposed using Q-parameterization theory for a variable speed magnetic bearing to control the vibrations. A mathematical model in a state space form was used for the bearings. The controller free parameter Q was assumed to be a proper stable transfer function whose order equals twice the number of operating speeds. A set of linear equations was solved to satisfy the design objectives. Several simulations obtained to evaluate the controller showed the effectiveness of the controller in eliminating the vibrations at different speeds.
