Required wall temperatures to ignite propane and CH4-air mixtures flowing in a heated narrow channel were studied. Higher temperature was required for smaller ID tube, e.g., the difference of the required wall temperatures for 2 and 0.5 mm ID was about 50 K in the case of average mixture velocity of 100 cm/sec at equivalence ratio 0.85:1 for propane/air mixtures. Wall temperature higher than 1050 K was required to start reaction for propane/air mixtures in general. The higher wall temperature was required for the larger equivalence ratio and for the larger flow velocity. The profiles of these trends at low velocity conditions and higher velocity conditions were different. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 30th International Symposium on Combustion (Chicago, IL 7/25-30/2004).
