Acetone, MeOH, and water extracts of 90 natural medicines used in Vietnam were tested for their trypanocidal activity against epimastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas' disease. Strong trypanocidal activity was found in the acetone extracts of 7 natural medicines, i.e. chân bâu (Combretum quadrangulare), khô sâm bāc (Sophora flavescens), by lá môt hoa (Paris polyphylla), cao luong khuong (Alpinia galanga), hāc huong (Pogostemon cablin), màn kinh tu(Vitex trifolia), thach hôc (Dendrobium nobile). l'-Acetoxychavicol acetate (1) and related phenylpropanoids were identified as the trypanocidal constituents of cao luong khuong.
