The effect of power-law amplifier nonlinearities on signal-to-noise-ratio performance is studied. By using coherent multiplication and filtering, the additional fundamental frequency components are obtained from the harmonic output components of the amplifier. A general expression for the SNR improvement factor is obtained that is applicable to non-Gaussian noise. It is found that the use of harmonic components improves the output SNR when the input SNR is in the vicinity of 0 dB.
