Solving city problems with sensorized everything a case study in Fujisawa

This paper shows a novel architecture for sensor data transport, and our findings from a number of projects aiming at solving existing city problems. The main part of the architecture is Universal Sensor Network Architecture, which is the combination of wide variety of sensing technologies and the XMPP-based sensor data transport. The novelty is that the city is captured in real-time by using automotive, virtual, and human sensing technologies. The sensor data transport is powerful enough to convey data generated from the different form of sensing in a common way, thus facilitating application development. We have been tightly cooperating with Fujisawa city officers to address real problems existing in the city. This paper shows five problems we observed, and three distinct techniques to solve them.
