Fourier holography switching is a viable method for realizing free space interconnect because of its relative ease for application in large systems. Conventionally, only one signal could be handled at a time in such an interconnect system. Though it is possible to interconnect all transmitters (Txs) receivers (Rxs) simultaneously with a butterfly network, such system complicates exponentially with the increasing number of Txs and Rxs. A relatively simple scheme is proposed for this simultaneous routing of many independent signals among a number of Txs and Rxs, using spatial multiplexing with pseudo-random codes.
