Study on detonation wave attenuation through narrow tube for application to explosion safety and detonation engines

It is necessary for rotating detonation engine (RDE) to be supplied the fuel and oxidizer from injection wall and to refuse the high temperature burned gas generated by detonation to a supply section. For considering this effect, we performed narrow tube heat and momentum transfer experiment. In this paper, we visualize the waves, such as detonation, shock and combustion wave that were generated by detonation diffraction and propagated through the narrow tube by using a high speed camera. We arranged the averaged shock velocity through narrow tube with cell size and analyzed the attenuation with simplified method of characteristics. We confirmed that the effect of diameter normalized by cell size d/λ for these attenuation phenomena and proposed the simplified model and the attenuation could explained qualitatively.
