Switching characteristics between periodic attractors stabilized from chaos in a laser diode with optical feedback

    Transient times statistics (TTS) among different stabilized periodic attractors with the high frequency injection control method in a laser diode subject to optical feedback through an external cavity is analyzed. In particular, the influence of the external laser cavity length on the transient time is investigated. The TTS at switching between the stabilized periodic attractors is found to strongly depend on the delay time of the feedback light and the phase difference between the main cavity field and the feedback field. The shortest transient time can be obtained with a short external cavity with zero phase difference.
