This paper demonstrates a tactile display to represent stiffness distribution using magnetorheological fluid. Intravital palpation is effective to detect small tumors that CT scan or endoscopes cannot detect. In order to perform intravital palpation, we propose a tactile display to reproduce stiffness of human tissue. We focused on magnetorheological fluid that changes characteristics by external magnetic field. At first, we investigated mechanical properties of the display by compression tests. Next, we compared mechanical properties with human tactile sensation. From experimental results, the display was able to represent tissue of tumor in the size 5 mm or less.
