Most cases of primary hyperparathyroidism are a single adenoma and double parathyroid adenomas are rare. If two swollen glands are detcted at the back of the thyroid lobes, we consider that the cause of the primary hyperparathyroidism is double parathyroid adenomas or hyperplasia. Recently, we treated two cases of double parathyroid adenomas. Two swollen glands were removed, and the values of serum calcium and parathyroid hormone were normalized after surgical treatment. These cases are discussed with reference to the procedures of preoperative diagnosis and surgery.
