This report proposes a two-dimensional laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV) making use of switching of two laser diodes (LD). In this method, each of two planes containing two beams of two one-dimensional differential LDVs is arranged so that they intersect orthogonally on the optical axis. The two components of the velocity are measured by successively switching the two LD on and off. An advantage of the present method is that two-dimensional measurement is possible with a set of photomultiplier and signal processing system. With this system, the steady water flow in a channel was measured and the effectiveness of the method was confirmed.
