Two pediatric cases of pyriform sinus fistula cured with a curved laryngoscope

Pyriform sinus fistula is a rare congenital disease that causes recurrent cervical abscess or acute thyroiditis. Treatment of the disease is complete extirpation of the fistula but its detection is very difficult because it is present at the apex of the hypopharynx with hard adhesions due to inflammation. So treatment by simple incision and drainage is invariably unsuccessful. We used a curved laryngoscope with endoscope and achieved complete extirpation of the fistula under a good view in each case. Use of a curved laryngoscope with endoscope may facilitate the proper treatment of pyriform sinus fistula.
