N2 - Both hypertension and atherosclerosis are chronic medical conditions which require continuous therapy. Recent basic and clinical studies have shown that vaccination against the renin-angiotensin system is effective in reducting blood pressure. In the case of atherosclerosis, vaccines targeting endothelial, macrophage, immune system, and lipid metabolism targets have been shown to reduce atherosclerosis in animal models. The development of vaccines for hypertension and atherosclerosis may be an important strategy for the prevention and treatment of these diseases.
